Patrol Division
In any Sheriff's Office across the nation, the Patrol Division functions as the backbone of the department. The Patrol Division is the most visible part of the Sheriff's Office, has the most sworn personnel out of all the divisions, and is generally the first contact citizens have with law enforcement in their community. The county is divided up into four geographical areas, with deputies assigned to each area to provide better coverage, and response times to calls.
The Patrol Division is responsible for providing law enforcement services, primarily to the citizens of Walker County, including the performance of basic police tasks of protecting life and property, preserving the peace, preventing and suppressing crime, and the apprehension of those who break the law.
Divisional operations are carried out within the geographical boundaries of Walker County, including one quarter mile into surrounding counties when the county boundary is not clearly defined, with primary responsibility to the unincorporated areas and those incorporated cities with no law enforcement agency. On request, the patrol division provides assistance to the incorporated cities of the county |
