citizen's academy

it's not like you see on tv.

Have you ever wanted to learn more about how law enforcement works? TV and movies depict law enforcement in so many different ways, that it leaves everyone confused on what actually happens on a day-to-day basis. We want to help change that.

One of the most eye-opening programs that we offer at the Sheriff’s Office is our Citizen’s Academy. It’s a course that gives an inside look at how the sheriff’s office works. Starting with the how a call comes in, all the way to the process of answering a call, and even processing a crime scene, the course covers how the different departments come together to serve the people of Walker County.

Now why would anyone want to take the course? It comes with some perks, like seeing a live demonstration of how the SWAT team operates, a trip to the Sheriff’s Office range and spending time with the same instructor that trains our department, and other cool and unique experiences.

The course has 8 classroom sessions and a trip to the range that gives a unique look at how your Sheriff’s Office works to keep everyone safe. You’ll have the opportunity to tour the jail, the Sheriff’s Office, ride along with a deputy, get specialized firearms training, see how K9 dogs operate, watch the SWAT team do various training exercises, and so much more that you’d enjoy. The class is free of charge to anyone over 18. We can’t wait to see you and show the ropes, and we’re thankful for the opportunity to serve you!
