Special response/dive team

SRT / Dive Team

The Walker County Sheriff's Office SRT / Dive Team is a special response team primarily tasked with locating drowning victims, search and recovery of evidence from underwater crime scenes, and performing search & rescue operations by land, boat, and in the water.  The team operates throughout Walker County and also works closely with the Smith Lake Task Force on search and rescue operations.  Members are on call 24 hours a day , 7 days a week and operate in dangerous environments during dive missions.   Team members operate in very claustrophobic conditions with zero visibility at times while diving.  To date, the SRT/Dive Team has performed numerous underwater searches for missing persons and searches for evidence from Murder cases.

The SRT / Dive team was created as a means of providing a rapid response to water emergencies utilizing special equipment and skilled divers.  The team members are Deputies that operate under the authority of Sheriff Nick Smith

Team members train on a monthly basis, involving dives at various lakes, rivers, and ponds throughout Walker County, as well as reviewing methods and procedures and performing equipment checks.
